I was a teacher who loved books. Then, I was a teacher who decided to get a Masters degree in Literacy. Then, I was a Reading Specialist at my elementary school. Now, I’m still a Reading Specialist, but I’m also a mother of twin baby girls… And, spoiler, I still love books.
Something that friends with babies, family members with babies, and even young moms at school always ask – What can I do at home to help my child learn? My short answer: READ. Read as much as you can, as often as you can, with as many different types of books as you can. It’s the simplest, yet the most authentic way to engage your child and help them learn and grow.
My girls are already loving books, and I’m always looking for new ones to share with them. We read during the day often, but we especially enjoy reading before bedtime. Here are some of our favorites:
Chicka Chicka Boom Boom – an old favorite that ALWAYS gets a smile! The girls love this one.
LOVE from the Very Hungry Caterpillar – this is the last book we read every night right before bed… It’s like our lullaby in book form!
Not Quite Narwhal – the cutest book ever! It’s like a modern version of The Rainbow Fish (which is another favorite!)
ANYTHING by Mo Willems. Really. He has been a personal favorite of mine from the classroom to the nursery and all of his books are just so sweet & funny.
Colors, Colors, Everywhere – the girls are mesmerized with this book! It’s their favorite book for tummy time.
I’d love to hear some of your favorites!!! Our book list will never be too long. 🙂
